Trauma Therapy, EMDR Therapy and Eating Disorder Treatment in Pennsylvania
Hi! I’m Laura Gordon.
I believe that all people are worthy of safe spaces and support in order to reclaim the true, wise self.
I work with folx struggling with trauma, eating disorders, body shame, and grief. I also specialize in religious/spiritual trauma and clergy support.
I am a white, cis, straight, fat, able-bodied woman from a middle-class family of origin. My preferred pronouns are she/her. I offer trauma-informed, fat-positive, weight-inclusive therapy that is justice-oriented, spiritually inclusive, and guided by the Health At Every Size (HAES) movement and Intuitive Eating (IE) model.
You’re ashamed and caught in a cycle of ‘shoulds.’
I should be happy. I should be grateful. I should be stronger. I should get over it.
You worry that you’re a hopeless cause. Your deepest fear is that you’re not worthy of love.
Maybe you’re on the verge of giving up, feeling like you’ve lost yourself and that you’re not sure it’s even possible to recover YOU.
Or, who that even is anymore.
Living with disordered eating, trauma, addiction and loss is painful.
And, you might not know or believe it just yet, but you’re courageous.
If you’re reading this, something within you is ready to face and befriend your fears and come to know them as teachers. Being here means that you’re resilient and ready to try again, no matter how many times you’ve walked away.
You deserve to be done.
Done with the drama and despair.
Done with repeating the same patterns over and over again.
Done with being silenced and forced to deny your anger and pain.
I want you to know that your story is sacred and deserves to be heard.
I’m here to witness that story, help you find meaning, and begin to write a new story of healing and hope.
Diet culture and trauma often gaslight us into believing that we aren’t worthy.
Many of us learned from a young age that seeking bodily pleasure and being in our body is shameful.
As a result we shut ourselves off from relationships and experiences.
We seek ways to numb the pain.
And in the end, we wind up denying ourselves the pleasure of living fully.
I believe that your body is a source of great wisdom that can lead you toward healing.
But the world tells you otherwise - imposing strict and shifting standards that instead disconnect you from your body...from a life lived fully...and from the very heart of who you are.
This is how you have protected yourself. This is how you have survived.
My hope is that we can find ways for you to begin to listen to what your body has to teach you.
To find freedom from societal pressure and shame. To reclaim your birthright of full body autonomy and agency.
Therapy is a commitment to show up for yourself. Even on the days you want to call out of life and pull the covers over your head. It can be deeply difficult work. But the deeper we go, the more we discover. The more we learn and grow. The deeper we go, the more deeply we can live.
To heal is to make yourself whole
To (re)claim your worthiness - mind, body, and heart. To (re)claim your space and your voice. To (re)claim your life fully.

Here are helpful questions you can ask your insurance provider aboout utilizing your plan's out of network benefits:
* Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
* Are services rendered by a licensed clinical social worker covered?
* Is any pre-approval required before obtaining out-of-network mental health services in order to be reimbursed?
* If I have out-of-network benefits, will I be reimbursed the full amount I paid or a portion?
* Do I have a deductible and if so, what is it?

My life has an ever-changing soundtrack made evident by my love of singing. I’m a trained classical singer, meaning I am gifted at making any genre of music sound like an opera. If you remember the late 90’s/early 2000’s SNL skit with Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer as middle school music teachers, you know exactly what I mean!
I love being surrounded by nature, especially near water.
I am obsessed with space. Outer space. Galaxies and universes and multiverses and black holes and worm holes. I think it’s a remnant of my childhood desire to be an astronaut.
I have a furry family of rescued pets that is currently comprised of a terrier and tabby cat.
